5 Insights and Tips for a Rewarding and Safe Safari in Africa

  • Choosing the Right Safari: Africa is vast and varied. From the dense rainforests of Uganda to the sprawling savannas of Tanzania, each region offers a unique experience. Consider what you most want to see – whether it’s the Big Five, the Great Migration, or gorilla trekking – and select a safari that aligns with your interests.
  • Cultural Etiquette: Africa’s cultural tapestry is as rich as its wildlife. Engage with local communities respectfully. Learn a few words in the local language, understand the dos and don’ts, and immerse yourself in the local customs and traditions.
  • Health and Safety: Consult with a travel health expert for vaccinations and health advice. In malaria-prone areas, precautions like prophylactics, mosquito repellents, and nets are vital. Always follow the guidance of your tour guides for a safe experience.
  • Avoiding Scams: Unfortunately, the safari industry is not immune to scams. Some local operators might offer deals that seem too good to be true, which often they are. Booking through a well-established foreign agency ensures that you avoid such pitfalls and have a hassle-free experience.
  • Understanding the Value of Local Insight: While choosing a foreign agency for security and reliability, it’s also essential that these agencies work closely with local experts. This collaboration ensures you receive authentic, insightful experiences while supporting the local economy.

I was very hesitant to make the payments prior to my arrival, it is a large amount and you don't know if it is a company you can trust. In the end everything turned out perfect, they are in contact via WhatsApp all the time! They are responsible and honest, our guide Nico made us have a wonderful safari, he made an effort to look for the animals and move at our pace, he made suggestions and explained very well about the animals and the parks. At first we were in a slightly old van, but they changed it that same day for a newer one, where there were connections to charge your phone right in front your sit. The lodges were beautiful, the food very delicious. I would definitely book with them again.

The five days safari tour in Tanzania was even better than we’d ever imagined. We saw beautiful views, ferocious animals, impressive birds and stayed in fantastic lodges. What made our tour amazing was our guide Deo who was very friendly, experienced, and a perfect driver (we never had a flat tire or engine problem, unlike the other cars). He explained everything about every animal.

Brought my family on our first African Safari @ Kruger National Park in December 2023. We were most fortunate to have “Hoppy” as our guide - passionate about African wildlife, knowledgeable about the ecology of Kruger National Park, Hoppy was most happy to share his knowledge. With Skukuza as our base camp, we explored Kruger from Hoppy’s eyes - saw more animals than we thought possibl e, and heard many more interesting stories. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and wished that we could have stayed an extra day. We stayed at Skukuza Rest Camp Chalets. There were other newer, more expensive lodges but having travelled a long way from Asia, we preferred these chalets as they offered us an authentic African safari experience. Skukuza, we felt, was also more central location wise and being in the nature reserve, facilitated easy access to game drives and animals. Mealtimes were enjoyable and rich in conversation, as were the morning coffees with Hoppy. For us, mealtimes were interesting too for other reasons - there were breakfast at Skukuza Golf Club aka “Wildest Golf Club in the World” amongst Hyenas and Hippos, Mugg & Bean Lower Sabie amongst African Buffaloes, lunch at Alzu amongst a large collection of reared African wildlife, and dinner at Cattle Baron back in Skukuza after a long day out. It was a memorable safari. Best Wishes Hoppy, loved our trip. Conrad

Everything was so smooth and perfect from start to finish! Communicated through WhatsApp to answer all my questions before booking, adapted the tour to my desire and my flights. But the best part of the tour was our guide Ayubu Kileo!!! He made sure we had the best view of the animals. He was always getting our car the closest and moved with the animals. He would stop whenever we wanted to take pictures. He would indulge in our photoshoots and take incredible photos of us! He always got us everywhere on time even though we were always late (for taking pictures). He gave us so many insights and anecdotes on the animals or the parcs! This experience was magical and I can’t recommend him enough!!!

We went on the 4 day classic kruger safari. Opted not to do the scenic version because wanted more time in park. The drive from Johannesburg was great (and scenic). Some people fly there but we really wanted to see the country side and other parts of South Africa so well worth the 5.5 hour. Our first night at the Sabbie river lodge was great - rooms were find, location amazing, food really good. Next two nights we stayed in Kruger so we didn't have to do the paperwork to get in which made it nice. The evening ride from the park rangers was just 'ok'. They went very fast so spotting anything was nearly impossible once it was dark. Our guide Nick was the best. Very knowledgable and fun to be with. I would recommend this tour to everyone. We went during the rainy season but were lucky with the weather. No rain the entire time. Issue is grass very tall, very lush so very pretty but can be hard to see animals but we got lucky and saw almost everything. If you go you will enjoy.

I want to take a moment to thank our wonderful guide Andrew. We went on a 4 day, 3 night safari in Tanzania and had a memorable time. Andrew had such a good eye to spot animals hiding or invisible to us. He made sure we saw the big 5 and we were so lucky to have seen so many animals in their natural habitat. Andrew was so patient with our questions and we had the most wonderful conversations about animals and Tanzania. Thank you Andrew for an experience of a lifetime!!

Don't look any further when searching for a safari company. We had the BEST time! We have been to the Kruger before, but a guided tour was simply wonderful. Hoppy, our guide, took such good care of us, collecting us from Jo'burg and patiently driving us around for many hours. We saw so many animals at close quarters; the only elusive creature was a leopard. Hoppy identified 30+ birds for us as we drove around first in a minibus, then in an open sided safari vehicle. The huge lion on our last morning was a highlight. He cared for us like a parent, advising us, collecting us and showing us how to get the most out of our 3 days. My husband initially aimed to do a self-drive tour, but even he is so glad we didn't. I can't recommend this company highly enough. Thank you guys.

I am overdue writing this review (my trip was in February 2023). The safari was incredible. I communicated with Paul via email to get it all set up, and then Ronnie (sp?) was my safari guide on the actual trip. Paul picked me up at my hotel in Nairobi and took me to meet the guide + rest of those on my group, and then Ronnie drove us all out to Masai Mara, was our guide for the duration of the trip, and drove us back to the city. I was a woman traveling alone (I'm 32, American) and I felt safe on the trip and well looked after by Ronnie, and it was fun to go with a group also to meet people. (With accommodations, I was very glad I opted for the mid-range option, could've probably even splurged on a luxury option! Budget would've been camping like in a tent-tent with detached shared bathroom. A couple men traveling solo in our group did this. Their campsite staff seemed very nice, but I was glad to have a bathroom/shower in my larger safari-style tent, and also a regular bed! In the mid-range which I did, I had the en-suite bath, a hot water shower, very comfortable bed, and meals included. I sat on the porch of my tent and watched the sunrise over the mountains drinking coffee, and then went and saw amazing animals in the most beautiful park I've ever been to. The safari itself was incredible. It's a bit of a drive out there (and the roads are unpaved the last ~80min or so, just to be aware of), but when you get to the park, you can't help but agree it's worth the trip. We were probably in the park for 10 minutes before I was looking right at a giraffe outside of our jeep. We saw like 20 lions. Leopards. Zebras. Wildebeests. Elephants. Baby elephants. More giraffes! (my favorite). Ronnie, our safari guide was SO knowledgeable about how to find all of the animals in the MASSIVE park. We'd just drive for miles over these unmarked small unpaved roads, and then arrive at a cheetah taking a nap under a tree. It was so cool. (Also a note - if you're debating between Masai Mara and Amboseli, I may have only been to the Mara, but I would choose it every time. From what I'd read before, and what I definitely saw for myself, Masai Mara itself even outside the animals is so stunning. The scenery is beautiful. I loved just driving through the park between animal sightings and looking at the nature all around. It was WELL worth the cost, an amazing experience, quite safe, and I would 100% recommend it and book again with this company.
